Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

I have supported women improve skills and knowledge on benefits of contraceptive through trainings so far we have trained 200 girls. I also through my organization created community dialogues to understand best practices on how to involve men coz they are critical in influencing women decisions regarding family planning, after i created awareness through community outreaches on perceptions and barriers to contraceptives so that they can overcome such,  how they can address the burden of unintended pregnancies
I have ensured we are using relevant and tried approaches in addition to what we already provide to empower the young people living with hiv on issues of contraceptive after Kigali family confrence

What sparked your passion for family planning?

My aspiration of being a family planning   champion was sparked by how my parents   used family planning in an era where most   parents didn’t opt for family planning as   children were seen as future wealth and a   return for investment by the parents Hence   most families had more than10 children. The beliefs of he who has more children is wealth and the more girls one had the more cattle he could get as dowry payments.

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

I have engaged with religious leaders to support campaigns on promoting use of family planning and engaged my religious friends on importance of family planning in our society.
I train boys and men of use of condoms as a dual protection method and always in our informal engagement with boys and peers to support their spouse make informed choice and decision on use of family planning.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

I will use the grant to continue engaging with fellow men and boys on need to embrace family planning and use various platforms that I am the leader to advance promoting of family planning. I will continue to engage with religious leaders and lead by example in my family by informing my children on importance of a family planning. Further I will support boys have trained to conduct social media campaign through an hash tag. #lets engage a platform that will be used to demystify the myths on FP
