Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

I support the development of the state and health facility scorecard showing family planning indicators performance for about 1200 health facilities in the state. I also lead a technical team in the development of indicator determinants to access family planning services in Bauchi state during Primary Health Care service reviews using the Bottleneck analysis tool. I support the development of an adapted family planning data quality assessment and Lots Quality Assurance Sampling tool for the state. I have led research and co-authored publications examining and addressing determinants of uptake of family for youths in Nigeria.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

Through my academic background as a demographer and social statistician, my interest in family planning grew. Lectures and seminars on demographic models and transitions and its influence on social and economic well-being fueled the desire to contribute in educating the popula on the importance of family planning. Possessing good research, data analysis and presentation skills, i knew my contribution would be best by providing evidence through research and data for planning and decision making

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

I mentor a team engaged in the development of the Bauchi state RMNCAHN scorecard which family planning (Long Acting Reversible Contraceptive) is a key indicator, the skills are presently being transferred to health service providers to develop simple scorecards for family planning monitoring. I lead and the data validation team for family planning and other services, the introduction of the data quality checker has enables stakeholders assess family planning data quality independently.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

It would facilitate a mixed method research on determinants and procedures for family planning engagement for youths in academic institutions. Also, it would necessitate a pilot on capacity building of service providers and stakeholders across rural and semi-urban communities on how to develop community/facility level tracking indicators (scorecards) for family planning performance monitoring, linked to the national information management system.
