Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

As Program Manager for Sukh, the first urban FP initiative of Pakistan that has achieved 21 percentage points increase in prevalence of mCPR from baseline, against the target of 15 percentage points; I designed field implementation strategy with the engagement of Govt’s lady health workers (200), and privately hired community workers (180). The strategy not just increased demand but also shown change in social norms towards adoption of FP methods. Working with youth, primarily from 15 to 22, I initiated a successful pilot of Youth Friendly Space, that provided safe space to 726 boys and girls for counselling and life skills base education that was later adopted by NASRA School System that provides subsidized education to 5,000 plus students from marginalized communities in Karachi.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

I believe that the key reason of high number of maternal mortality in Pakistan (276/100,000), is because of no or very less spacing between pregnancies, early child marriages (also forced marriages), and on other hand a clear bias of health care providers in providing services, especially to unmarried / young age couples. I want to change this scenario in my province first, and then across the country. The only solution we've is adaptation choice and right based access to FP. I stand for that.

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

I worked for 5 years as program manager, during period i supervised more than 20 colleagues. My theory of leadership is "Adoptive Leadership" - Now, four of my team members who started as field workers, now working as Managerial positions in different local NGOs. Secondly, I believe in team work, as we have achieved over the target in last 5 years, that has only become possible of team work and coordinated efforts and friendly and professional behavior with team.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

I'll design & develop a comprehensive Mother and Daughters Counselling Model (MDCM). This is universally putative that mothers are the primary resource of information for their children, and especially for adolescents girls. The model is on how effectively a mother can talk to her daughter (10-18) regarding biological changes in body, menstruation, productivity, age of marriage and its social importance. Initiative will server a pop of est 3,450,000 through 23,000 govt’s lady health workers.
