He made a tremendous effort to brings the private sector in family planning (FP)service, effective training on microplanning of FP in the whole district, defining Unmet need in the context (His master thesis- Unmet need of FP in rural setting Nepal. – Rajendra Ghimire, Public Health Administrator at Ministry of Health and Population
Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

Innovation is my first agenda. I never follow the guideline by 100% but always try to make it 100+ %. As a focal point of the program, Microplanning on family planning, private sectors involved in the RH services and data verification was my initiatives, beyond my regular task. Through which I achieved a significant change result in CPR in all districts. Within 4 years, I have incorporated about 700 private health facilities in the reporting system. The concept was adopted and replicated by the Health ministry as well. Statistically, I have conducted about 50 FP outreach camp serving about 5000 peoples and 30 Uterine prolapse screening camp which served more than 500 women. I have trained about 200 health workers, 100 + teachers and 1000 teenaged school students on ASRH.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

When I saw some 13 years girl was going to be mother, Many ladies of age around 21 years was attending the uterine prolapse camp and found with second degree prolapse and when I saw a woman of age 35, was in the health center for the ANC checkup for her 8th gravida and especially when I saw a Muslim lady using implant and when her husband noticed it, She was bitten badly and came to the health center to remove it. I decide to work on the most cost-effective intervention -Family planning.

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

I lead family planning services in different districts and importantly I was succeeded to increase the CPR significantly ( at least by two or more) for which I had to enroll at least 3000 new clients every year. It became possible all because of the microplanning and participation of private sector in the services.
I am leading NEPHA (Nepal Public Health Association), as a president of Gandaki province and currently, I am also working as Secretary of health professional Association of Nepal

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

I am sure I will add it up in this amount and make it at least to 5000 $ by approaching to different potential donors in my working area and I will apply it in some SRHR program for which I have many proposals waiting for the resources. I will work for safe abortion service and family planning together in private sectors. I will also work for young and adults.Campaign for the awareness and behavior change to the targeted group and male participation in FP will be another priority area to work.
