Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

I had started my peer education from Family Planning Association of Nepal. Since my involvement, I have been actively involving in informing people about the advantages of family planning devices for their healthy and happy lifestyle. I had reached so many young people in schools and communities, young women working in factories and also different groups in communities. I've not only informed them about the devices but also informed them about service centers to access to the devices and services.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

I can see many people living under poverty and having unwanted/unplanned pregnancies. Due to this, people are having unsafe abortions or leave their child on the road or kill after giving birth which is so painful for me to hear or see. Sometimes women herself costing their life just because of unplanned and unwanted pregnancies which happens more in teenage girls. This reasons sparked my passion for family planning since 2007, till now and will remain in future as well.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your family planning efforts, and what have you done to overcome it?

I have not faced much challenge in family planning efforts, But sometimes, its myths around the family planning in the people. To overcome it, I explain them about the devices and provide examples why the myths are not correct.

What is your (country/region/city)’s biggest challenge in family planning, and how can it be addressed?

The biggest challenge in family planning in my country is that, the devices are not available easily in so many districts and regions. In some places, people are well aware of family planning devices but they feel hesitate to use those devices because of uncomfortable, judgmental behavior of service providers and myths regarding family planning devices.
It can be addressed by providing them the correct information through radio, television and other information materials.

What do you want to accomplish in the next 5 years?

In the next five years, I want to accomplish that people having correct information regarding family planning and debunk myths regarding family planning devices. I want to see and hear people are using any kind of family planning devices whenever they are needed without any hesitation. People will be aware of their rights to use family planning devices whenever they need despite of their marital status and non judgmental behavior of service provider.
