I work as a youth engagement officer in VSO Bangladesh. I am responsible to ensure youth leads regional and national level policy advocacy around sexual reproductive health and rights that focusing on reducing child marriage and early pregnancy. I worked with Women Deliver as a young leader, Youth Champion of Asia Safe Abortion Partnership. I was worked as a youth officer in RHSTEP for improving SRHR in Bangladesh. I led 3 districts level youth forum. I was responsible to provide training on SRHR, life skills, Youth friendly Services, TFD, leadership etc. I have experienced to developed SRHR related IEC and BCC materials on adolescent sexual reproductive health rights including family planning - Published five story Series Book, Booklet, Poster, leaflet, training module on SRHR and FP.
My first question is why we need family planning its only for reducing population growth? I think no, it also make a positive impact to reduce teenage pregnancy that is dangerous consequences of child marriage. One-third of teenage girls aged 15-19 are pregnant in Bangladesh, British Medical Journal. We tried to reduce child marriage but who are already faced child marriage we stop their teenage or early pregnancy through ensure their unmet family planning need which sparked me to work FP.
I closely work with youth clubs, peers educators and vso youth volunteers. I undertake the process to identify the influential networks where youth can be part of the policy advocacy and communicate with different networks, government department to engage and empower youth groups and mobilize them for amplify their voice. I Initiate capacity building training for youth clubs members, alumni members and volunteers on SRHR also capacity building for services provider to more accountable on YFS.
I will develop a Family Planning APP which will cover family planning information, method demonstration (like condom demonstration), management of family planning methods, FAQ etc. I will link with this others relevant information and service orientated websites. I will share this app with my youth clubs members and capacited 100 youth clubs members and peer educators who will disseminate this information to community youth groups and they will work as a youth advocate for family planning.
