Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

That’s the number of girls we have empowered to demand and receive a modern contraceptive method in Tanzania over the past 3 years.

I’m a young designer for PSI. I walk in the shoes of our youngest consumers to understand what forces shape their lives, and work with them to re-imagine contraception as a way, a tool, for them to safeguard their future.

I have spoken to thousands of young women and their influencers – parents, partners, leaders – as part of PSI’s flagship AYSRH project: Adolescents 360.

We’ve co-designed approaches that fuse conversations about girl’s dreams, with opportunities for skills training and access to FP counselling and contraception.

By the time we're done, 180,000 girls will be on a contraceptive of their choice. That is my impact.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

I live in a country where girls get kicked out of school for being pregnant.

They are locked out of opportunities, their prospects cut short, their dreams in tatters. For me, that has never been acceptable.

I believe access to youth-focused family planning opens up choice for girls, and helps them safeguard their futures by preventing unplanned pregnancies.

These girls are smart.Contraception is one way for them to keep their dreams intact, and I'm working to ensure that they get it.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

This platform would be a useful way to connect with others doing innovative outreach work to broaden access to contraception for adolescent girls and young women in Africa.

I would be part of a community of Family Planning practitioners, giving me the opportunity to learn from, and share knowledge with others.

The grant, in combination with other support (work-based / institutional), will facilitate these learning opportunities for me.
