Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

I have been supporting the government of Mozambique in rolling out the national strategies and also to pilot innovative interventions in FP arena that can feed into policy and can be scalable for regional and global level. Following interventions allowed the Ministry of Health to have enough evidence to include as national policy:
1) FP/HIV Integration;
2) Community based FP through different cadre of CHW's
3) Community based access to injectable through CHW and TBA
4) Digital Health technology to increase access in FP information for Adolescents and Youth;
5) Evidence that having ECP allow more regular clients for FP

What sparked your passion for family planning?

My passion for FP started when i was first assigned to be a medical doctor in a rural district in Mozambique called Caia, and seeing very early adolescents (12Y) coming to Health facility in her last month of pregnancy for the first time, the number of maternal deaths due to inexistent HTSP and by hearing different types of myths and misconceptions around FP. All this triggered my passion and work in promoting FP as a matter of right for every girl and women.

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

1) Conducted FP Campaign at district and provincial level after having an advocacy session with non-health sectors showing the demographic dividend;
2) Conducting the first study on safety and feasibility of injectable at the community administered by APE (CHW) and TBA.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

Will use specifically for 2 main activities to advance access and use of LARC among AGYW:
1) Complementing existing digital health platform with additional content;
2) Develop and Adapt strategy for provider bias and present to MoH to be accessible national wide.
