Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

I've been actively involved in counselling and service delivery in both the formal hospital setting as well as on the field through counselling, health talks in homes, schools, churches, offices, as well through community outreaches to ensure every one at every level as much as I'm able has access to the right information as well as appropriate, affordable and effective methods of family planning whether in the hospital or at work place or home.
I've also been involved in media advocacy and social marketing inspired by the desire to dispel the myths and misconceptions around family planning and contraceptive use, increase acceptable and confidence to take charge of reproductive health by seeking out contraceptives over the counter or at accredited health centres without fear.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

My passion for family planning was sparked in my youth service year.
I noticed young people visiting hospitals and pharmacies desiring abortions or treatment for sexually transmitted infections/diseases. Many suffered dire complications.
I also kept hearing tales told about the "evil" effects of family planning encouraging people to run for their lives.
I just knew someone had to stand in the gap as a voice of reason and I made up my mind that person would be ME!

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

I have initiated a number of trainings where I work aimed at ensuring many doctors and nurses and other health care workers are trained in counselling on as well as administering contraception and that the pharmacy is stocked at all times especially varieties offered by DKT International. No longer do clients have to wait only for the OBGYN before getting access to information/family planning method,
I have also organised/coordinated several successful community outreaches .

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

if named winner, I would use this platform expand on what I already do on a much larger scale with media advocacy and taking service delivery to the urban as well as the rural areas . I would also use the 1000 dollar grant to start a family planning centre.
No independent facility of its kind exists in my country at the moment and I'm committed to seeing this happen.
