Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

I am in charge of a youth counseling center. We provide guidance and tools on family planning methods, sexual and reproductive health and rights, STI's and emotional support for girls with unplanned pregnancies and through the process of abortion. During my work at the Israeli Family Planning Association I established the Haifa Open Door clinic, that provides free and anonymous reproductive contraception and SRHR, along with physical exams and diagnosis. I created a partnership with the Ministry of Health in the Haifa district in order to provide subsidized long-term contraceptives for youth, along with guidance from a medical team. I work closely with the pregnancy termination committees advocating the young women and girl’s needs and rights throughout this process.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

From a young age I believed people should know their bodies, experience pleasure and acknowledge their right for sexual and reproductive health. Since I started working at the Israeli Family Planning Association, I realized how little people know about family planning possibilities and how the Israeli health and birth encouragement policy violates our basic rights. As an activist at heart, I aspire to change these wrongs and make sexual and reproductive rights more accessible.

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

Along with health providers, young people and educational professionals, I work to create sexual and reproductive projects in schools and youth centers in the Haifa area. I participate in various events to advocate for family planning and sexual health awareness. I learn and read about different cultures, SRHR advocacy and talk about sexuality. I believe learning about our differences can help create a better acceptance to diversity and thus change our society.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

During my M.A in Women's and Gender studies I wish to learn about different creative, advanced methods and programs that reduce discrimination and inaccessibility to sexual healthcare worldwide. I believe it is the basic knowledge needed for successful implemantation of programs in family planning, SRHR, and gender equality. With this reward, I intend to engage the Israeli community with these family planning and SRHR projects and make rights more accessible.
