Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

I have raised awareness among rural women and men in most vulnerable and remote areas of Thar desert and mobilized more than 300 women and their families to adopt most advanced method of Family planning (Implant Insertion) during the FP camps organized by PPHI/SCI with the support of Jhpiego. Besides this I have also translated the english draft of vasectomy in Sindhi (Local language) an advance method of FP for men and made onair through FM radio for mobilizing the men segment to adopt the FP practices along with women. I have also facilitated the FP/RH service deliveries at various facilities through providing the training opportunities of advance methods of (PPIUCD, Vasectomy, Implant).

What sparked your passion for family planning?

The vulnerable conditions of people of my area particularly women segment who have been striving for sharing the family income and along with men in the agriculture fields and road labor besides providing all household services to family members. I have been working with such women since last 10 years and mobilizing and motivating them to minimize their family size. Due to male dominance society females always pushed by men to entertain them and birth to their children.

What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your family planning efforts, and what have you done to overcome it?

I have always been challenged by religious factors during the mobilization process who have created the hindrances and detracted the peoples. I have gone through the detail history of religions and raised various religious perceptions which have been described by scholars in favor of family planning and economic conditions that enabled me to face such challenges and overcome to them successfully.

What is your (country/region/city)’s biggest challenge in family planning, and how can it be addressed?

As far as my region has less literacy ratio and due to illiteracy people are religious believers and follow the myths developed by various religious factors and avoid to adopt the family planning process while focused group discussions with women I have observed that most women are willing to adopt the FP/RH process but influenced by men to refuse for such practices. Major challenge is ignorance of family men, illiteracy ratio and religious factors.

What do you want to accomplish in the next 5 years?

I am intended to raise the awareness among most vulnerable and deprived segments of the society through conducting FGDs at village level, advocacy for FP/RH ensuring the service delivery at facility level and motivate the more women to adopt the FP/RH methods. I would be lead to bring the women and men from rural areas and adopt FP methods (PPIUCD, Implant and Vasectomy) in the coming five years.
