Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

I have worked on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) with a focus on Family Planning (FP) for people living with physical disabilities. I trained people living with physical disabilities, their care givers and people working for them. I have developed user-friendly resource material consisting of Braille books for people with visual impairment and animated videos dubbed in sign language on SRHR focusing on FP. I have been involved in building capacity through rights based approach of approximately 500 Health Care Providers (HCPs), mid-level providers, medical and nursing students in Pakistan on adolescents and youth SRHR including (FP). Also I have supported in development of culturally appropriate and acceptable resource material in local dialect on SRHR focusing on FP.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

Pakistan has low contraceptive prevalence rate, and high maternal morbidity and mortality rate. I have witnessed HCPs biases and their judgmental attitude while counseling and providing FP services to adolescents and Youth, based on their marital status and parity.
I had access to accurate information and services related to SRHR at appropriate age but seeing my friends with lack of information and limited access to services due to which they ended up in unhealthy behavior and complications.

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

I was able to overcome all the challenges and successfully developed braille books and animated videos dubbed in sign language on SRHR focusing on FP for people living with physical disabilities. It is the first material of its kind that has been developed for them in Pakistan.
Training of public and private HCPs, mid-level providers and develop Young People as Champions on importance of adolescent friendly SRHR information and services

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

Develop more Youth Champions on SRHR focusing on FP for people living with Physical Disabilities. Since they are considered as asexual. I will use the already developed resource material and develop some more material in local dialect for community people and will do community level intervention in order to sensitize and raise awareness among community people about right to access to accurate information and quality health care services for FP regardless of sex, age and marital status
