Ms.Nateica Garraway is an ardent SRHR Advocate who always seizes the opportunity to give voice on the use of contraceptives and family planning in Guyana. She has facilitated several family planning sessions to young people and adults. – Patricee Douglas, Founder/Medical Doctor at SRHR Adventures
Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

By facilitating SRHR sessions & encouraging the use of contraceptives by young people & the practice of family planning by adults, I have been contributing to this area. I also use social media as a platform to widely share such information for the edification of the general public.

Advocating for family planning in a rural Amerindian village from an outreach has been a great achievement since culturally it is not apart of their traditions, so being able to reach out and inform them of their options through my grassroots organization was fulfilling.

As Chairperson of Projects & an active volunteer, I work ardently towards achieving SRHR-A goal of increase use of contraceptives and the practice of family planning in Guyana, by dedicating my energies and using my voice for change.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

Growing up in an environment where I saw women having children right after the other and punishing because the fathers of these children often of times left moved me. Seeing the struggles faced by mothers who could not sustain their families was quite sad, so I decided to be a part of the solution by entering the world of volunteerism and using my voice to educate on family planning and other SRHR related issues.

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

Before I became chair of projects committee, leadership was displayed when I indicated to lead a project/activity, suggest projects/activities, delegate tasks to others for such & submit necessary reports. As well as availing myself to facilitate/be supportive at events, & openly speak on tabooed topics/issues.
Currently the Chair, I still do the above & more with the support of my team to plan & execute social media campaigns about family planning & host satellite tables.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

This platform will be used to further continue my advocacy work on the use of contraceptives and the practice of family planning beyond Guyana; I will be interested in collaborating with other winners to achieve their goals as well.

The grant will be used in my organization SRHR Adventures to fund a project which targets schools and rural communities about family planning, so as to reduce unwanted and unplanned pregnancies, and rather increase planned pregnancies.
