Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

Since 2011, I initiated with my previous organization a leadership program to empower young women under 24 years old to break society’s stereotypes that influence early marriage to young girls and societal norms about their roles in the society, we strengthened the leadership of more than 2000 young women from different background, we also initiated a gender equality program by promoting positive masculinity for young men under 24 years old, it aimed at strengthening their understanding of their roles and responsibilities regarding their sexuality and reproduction, we gathered more than 1000 young boys in total. In 2017, I developed with AMSHeR a national strategy to enable young key populations to access better SRHR services after a consultation of more than 100 YKPs from 4 regions

What sparked your passion for family planning?

Madagascar is currently the poorest country in the world and many communities still do some pernicious practices in terms of culture that need to be addressed, being a human rights defender, I have always desired to start with community awareness about sexual and reproductive rights, as it remains under-reported and low investment is made in that area. I am convinced that a better family planning is a key element to effectively influence the development driven by conscious youth today.

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

From 2017, as I started to work on SRHR for young key populations, I could realized that it was tough as most of the beneficiaries of our program were vulnerable and marginalized, then it required a huge adaptability to change and strong commitment. At the beginning, most of the beneficiaries showed a great disinterest of the project and putting only the importance on the amount of funding that they will benefit, it took a lot of perseverance to work on the cause and engage stakeholders.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

First, I really want to join the platform 120 under 40 to develop the scope of my project and to learn experiences from other countries under a peer to peer support and then formulate a model that meets the needs of the young populations in Madagascar. Secondly, I plan to organize capacity building with the 1000$ obtained and to mobilize other resources to be used for logistics, materials, transportation and catering for participants for the 3 days workshop.
