Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

I have organized onsite model trainings to train doctors, gynecologists, nurses and health intermediaries to increase women and men’s access to family planning services. Over the years, the number of providers offering family planning services have increased in the project area. I also conduct regular cluster level orientations for CHWs and ANMs to ensure proper follow-up of FP users so that continuity of adopted method and management of complications is ensured.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

During my BSc nursing I learnt that family planning services prevents unintended pregnancies, chances of unsafe abortions, maternal deaths and morbidities. FP services reinforces women and men’s right to decide when to have a child and space pregnancies. I realized that FP services are critical for the well-being of both men and women therefore started working in this field.

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

I have persistently worked to improve HSPs clinical and counselling skills through on-site training and post training support. I also regularly liaise with district officials in the project area to ensure smooth roll-out of FP programs by actively participating in planning and review meetings.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

I will use the grant to increase the frequency and scale of cluster level meetings in the project area to improve awareness on FP services.
