What sparked your passion for family planning?

The fact that family planning saves lives of mothers, their children and improves the quality of life for their families. I could not seat back and observe women and young girls get unplanned pregnancies yet they can be prevented easily by health education, awareness creation and quality FP services. I have witnessed families live miserable lives due to failure to plan their families. The more I work in the community the more come across moving client stories on the need for FP

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

I was requested by Jhiego to make a presentation on behalf of the organization at the global task force for Long acting and permanent methods. Participants were thrilled by my presentation. The confidence Jhpiego has in me demonstrates that I play a leading role in FP.

I have published a manuscript on effective strategies to scale up LARCs. I played a key role in the design and implementation and evaluation of the strategies.
Many media houses have engaged in expert interviews on FP

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

I would enroll pregnant adolescents in young mothers clubs and empower then on how to avert rapid repeat pregnancies. The topics to be covered include Safe motherhood, Healthy relationships, Life planning skills, Future protection (the role of immediate postpartum FP in meeting their life goals), adolescence and puberty among others. I would engage community health volunteers to mobilize the pregnant adolescents. NB. 35% of skilled births in some facilities in the target county are below 19yrs.
