Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

Since 2015, my organization gave me opportunities to serve 5 provinces where I advocate for full implementation of RH Law. Since it became a law in 2012, its implementation was faced with hurdles coming from the anti-RH groups. To advance FP and SRHR, I worked with local gov't, CSOs, & youth groups on the ground by doing multi level evidenced-based advocacy, cap-building & awareness raising.

Since then, local champions emerged from advocacy efforts which resulted to enactment of RH policies and increase in RH & FP budget. Also, I was able to provide 6 training for teachers, with a total of 350 trained educators; 5 Youth Council workshop on RH policy dev't participated by 320+ youth council leaders; visited over 70 schools for ASRH forum, &; reached GIDA communities for FP & RH talks.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

Its the stories of women, girls and families that kept me in this fight. A story of 16y/o from Palawan who almost died due to unsafe abortion. A story of a 24y/o mom from Sorsogon who fights with her husband coz she doesn't want to have sex after modern FP was banned by their mayor. A mother from Manila who walks miles away to Quezon City to get pills, after the Manila mayor banned modern FP in their city.

More than stories, these are LIVES, RIGHTS & DIGNITY which I want to fight for!

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

Post ICFP2016, I was part of a small group who started the 1st National Family Planning Conference in the Philippines, which will have its 3rd on March 2020. I co-managed the Youth FP Conference and headed the Documentation Team. Also part of the working group for the first World Contraception Day in the country

In the local, government leaders, academic institutions, CSOs, youth groups and private sectors would invite me to talk about SRHR, RH law and FP, as a person recognized in the field.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

If chosen, I trust this can help me inspire my fellow Fil-youth to become their own FP super heroes. Also, I'd use the platform for networking, learning exchanges opportunities & collaboration to advance FP & sustainable dev't.
While I wish to invest the grant in young people through:
1. learning sessions & policy dev't workshop for elected Sangguniang Kabataan (Youth Council Officials)
2. training teachers: creative & innovative strategies in teaching FP & SRHR to learners
