Joseph Bobson Koroma

I have been engaged in family planning advocacy in Sierra Leone through my organization the Patriotic Youth Sierra Leone (PY-SL) and going from school to school to raise the awareness of students about teenage pregnancy, early marriage and HIV/Aids
My intention to make my community and country a better place and the desire to end teenage pregnancy and early marriage sparked my passion for family planning advocacy.
M y biggest challenge in my family planning efforts has been ignorance and illiteracy of the greater majority of of the populace about sexual and reproductive health rights. We continue to raise awareness and sensitize people about these important issues.
I think the biggest challenge that Sierra Leone faces with regards family planning is illiteracy and traditional orientation. Because of illiteracy and tradition, a lot of people find difficult to accept family planning methods. There should be more educational efforts and removal of cultural barriers to family planning through active engagement. of stakeholders.
Within the next five years, I want to reach out to the last chiefdom in Sierra Leone with family planning advocacy by establishing advocacy groups in each chiefdom.
