Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

As a new comer to the field of Family Planning, I have spent the last three years working on advancing and empowering youth and youth advocates alike, to increase their access in obtaining the knowledge and resources that they require in order to be able to make informed decisions and choices, in regards to their autonomy and sexuality. Following the dire situations in Cox Bazaar, Bangladesh, where in times of crisis the basic needs of women are often forgotten, I had managed to raise funds for over 250 Sustainable Dignity Kits that included reusable menstrual hygiene products, that was distributed through the Mobile Clinic, that was set up by the Malaysian authorities.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

Coming from a country like Malaysia, where child marriage is prevalent, and baby dumping remains to be an issue that plagues the society, it was hard to not find myself delving in a field, that has the power to change the course of the current statistics and realities of our nation. The realities we face, are not ours alone, and it was that understanding that led me to the work that I do today.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

I intend to channel a part of the funds to help kickstart an accessible FP Mobile Clinic for youth and refugee communities in Malaysia, and to utilise the remaining to expand and launch a global platform to increase the amount of Sustainable Dignity Kits that will be provided to women and girls in need, within humanitarian crisis settings. Through the platform and the International Youth Alliance for Family Planning, I intend to amplify the voices on the ground, from within the networks we work.
