Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

As a National Scale up officer-Sayana press I spearheaded development of a national Sayana press scale up plan, coordinates it's implementation and monitors scale up progress. Through technical support, we have trained 3,255 providers and 1,786 community health workers to offer Sayana press in all 122 districts. Through advocacy,Sayana press was integrated into service delivery, national quantification, supply and distribution system; data tools (HMIS) and training tools. It's contribution to FP method mix increased from 6.3 in 2017 to 10.9 in 2018.
Previously , as a Health Services Coordinator at PSI, we trained and mentored 350 providers in 220 Social franchise clinics to deliver LARCs to 165,761 and integrated Cervical cancer screening to 109,160 women in 2015 and 2016.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

In 2005, I encountered a teenager in deep pain, un able to que in out patient waiting area. upon invitation into clinical room, she could not easily open up;On examination, I discovered sticks in her vaginal canal with Pus. She had done unsafe abortion. She never wanted parents to know about this, yet she was to be referred. I counselled her, contacted the father; although he could not afford referral. We treated her, she recovered miraculously. Promoting FP became my dogma since then.

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

Coordination and stewardship of the national scale up of sayana press through the task force is an area where I have applied my leadership skills and experience and lessons in FP work. Working with different partners and other stakeholders to have a common goal and achieve noted progress in scale up is hugetask that requires applictaion and learning of leadership skills.
At PSI, I led and provided technical guidance to a team of 12 Quality assurance officers to get the results.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

I will use this platform to network, learn and share experiences about sustainable and efficient delivery of high quality Family planing services; and promote use of Self injection with Sayana press to different countries. I will use the grant to develop a SMART APP that can be used by providers to forecast, quantify and order required stocks of FP products. This will mitigate the problem of stock outs and overstocks noted due to poor skills in supply chain management by providers.
