Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

I have conducted several successful family planning advocacy as SRHR and demographic dividend champion in Nairobi ,in 2017 I strategized and conducted community outreaches seeking to sensitize and train young people on budget making process and calling them to action, encouraging them to advocate for FP budget line in the county integrated development plan (CIDP). As an additional strategy i developed a policy memorandum and gathered signatures before submitting to the office of the governor through the county secretary on 30th Nov 2017. I went on doing constant follow up through director of public planning before the CIDP was published .Days later the final CIDP was published I received a copy and family planning had a clear budget line of 442 million for the next five years.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

I have witnessed mothers suffering birth complications and poor birth outcomes such as preterm birth and low birth weight as a results of poor birth spacing during my clinical attachments as a student. In 2017 while collecting data on accessibility of Youth Friendly Service in Nairobi i met a nurse in a dispensary based in the national youth service camp while narrating she said "The youth in this camp come seeking FP commodities but i don't have supplies.."this was more than a trigger to ACT!

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

I organized and conducted trainings for 10 CBOs on family planning advocacy tools, budget making process and created 2 community champions in each of the 17 sub counties of Nairobi. with the same knowledge and experience I have traversed more than ten counties in Kenya capacity building fellow young people(Youth leaders) on how to run strategic advocacy on FP budgeting where several counties have yield results . I have participated to both TV and radio discussions on health and FP among youth.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

I will use the grant to conduct continuous advocacy during budget process and monitoring in Nairobi County ensuring the funds allocated for family planning are utilized as stipulated in the budget for the next three financial years , I will also organize community outreaches to educate youth on the importance of family planning in order to increase contraceptive prevalence rate and reduce fertility rate.
