Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

I have facilitated a number of onsite trainings for HSPs, doctors, nurses and ANMs in the state of Madhya Pradesh and Haryana. I have also conducted post training support to strengthen IUCD services. The number of providers offering services has increased manifold in the project area.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

I often met young women in the hospital who could not space their pregnancies due to lack of awareness on FP services. This drove me to work consistently in this field to increase awareness and access to FP services among women.

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

I have facilitated regular training sessions on counselling for doctors, nurses and ANMs to enable them to provide effective and empathetic counselling to men and women. I am often told by doctors and nurses that post the counselling session they have motivated a number of men and women to adopt suitable contraception methods. At the community level I have conducted training session for CHWs to increase awareness and dissemination of correct information on FP services.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

I will use the grant to educate the front-line health workers on the importance of contraception services so that they can create awareness in community to adopt appropriate contraception methods. I will also use the grant to increase the scale of my work in the project area.
