Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

I have contributed to the effective implementation of Post Partum Family Planning study in rural Ethiopia. I have provided training on PPFP for health care workers, Health extension workers, and facilitated orientation on PPFP messages for Women Development Army which are community volunteers. Conducted supportive supervision, onsite coaching for health care providers and health extension works trained on PPFP and provided technical support for the study sites. Ensured supported study sites are using the study tools to track PPFP service across a unit and the continuum of care. Conducted in-depth interviews to understand the root cause of any implementation issues and provided possible recommendations to address bottlenecks in improving the performance and quality of PPFP service.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

I live in a country where many mothers struggle with childbearing complications due to unwanted pregnancy. This challenge and my need to help in this area are what made me a family planning expert.

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

I provide mentorship and coaching to health care providers and health extension workers at different facilities in rural Ethiopia. I am also part of the Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health task force at zonal health bureau level which consists of Family planning issues.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

I will use the money to take short courses so that I can advance my knowledge and skills in Family planning. I will create an online information sharing platform like a WhatsApp group with my co-workers and others in my network where I will share the new skills or information I will get from my courses on Family Planning. I will advocate for this information to be utilized in program implementation.
