Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

My contributions to Family Planning is on SRHR advocacy, community based programmed to provide information and services, research and policy. As an associate advocate for IYAFP and PRB where I am currently working with stakeholders in Cross River State to increase young people access to Family Planning information and services by creating an 'SRHR Day'' in all primary health care facilities”. I was part of the team who advocated and planned the ‘’Wise-Up Cross River Campaign” in 2016 that increased knowledge of over 2500 youths in Cross River State on HIV/STIs and increased access to condom use. Through Brencare Foundation, I facilitate sessions with in-school and out-of school adolescents where i provide information on comprehensive sexuality education.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

I live in Calabar where we have over 400 children living on streets and they are denied access to quality health care and they face all forms of violence daily in their lives including sexual violence which most times results to children giving birth to children. one of the major causes of this is parents giving birth to multiple children with very minimal resources and lack of family planning information and services has deprived many girls the opportunity to fulfill their dreams.

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

I am currently leading EEDA advocacy to relevant stakeholders in Cross River State state to improve access of young people in the state to family planning information and services by creating a policy that would institute a monthly SRHR day and have been advocating to stakeholders including religious and traditional rulers to approve Family Planning for young girls and women including advocacy for creation of youth friendly centers across the Local Government Areas.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

I would use this new visibility and funding to support the implementation of the monthly SRHR day in Cross River State and expand its scope to reach more young people in the state and i will continue to engage more young people in hard to reach communities and students in higher institutions on Family planning information and access to services. Part of the grant would also go into supporting BrenCare Foundation SRHR school clubs in Cross River State.
