Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

I started up the Mbarara University medical students for choice chapter with a vision of having family planning included in the school curriculum. Following this, I was able to attend trainings in sexual reproductive health within my community where I started learning about what can be done to achieve best and promote family planning in my community. Later on with local partners, we have had focused group discussions, group meetings, exhibitions at the university and in student hostels, held out reaches and had peer to peer talks about modern family planning methods, natural family planning methods with the student volunteers who joined us in the move.
Currently have added youth voices to university existing policies related to SRH, have implemented the first SRHR Week in the university.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

A friend share with me about sexual Reproductive health 4 years ago and this drove me into looking at available statistics in my community and with the work that we started doing, the lack of Knowledge about family planning methods among youths at university was worrying and also that many were seeking unsafe abortions. This drove me to play a role in giving back and telling people what i had learnt, the need to empower more ladies to know and stand for their rights, and men too!

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

Being a student leader in medical students for choice chapter of Mbarara university, I made a team with whom we worked with strict volunteer activities to preach the gospel on SRH and need for family planning. I have handed over inspired more leaders to take root and role.
I have participated in decision making regarding our institutions policies related to sexual reproductive health, by engaging with the university leadership.
My happiness is in seeing the rest excel from what I have taught.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

I would give have half of the grant given to train providers and provision of modern family planning methods at the university clinic in family planning, and the other half give it back to the medical students for choice chapter in Mbarara university so that they can go ahead to continue student education and mobilization for the services at the university clinic.
