Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

I was part of the team of CSOs that developed communication products (factsheets, press releases, interview guide etc) during the period when CSOs were advocating for the inclusion of FP in Ghana's National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). I was also part of the team that responded to media interviews & inquiries across radio, television & newspaper in Ghana. I was also part of the crisis management team that was put together to respond to any crisis that may arise from the CSOs campaign for the inclusion of FP in the NHIS. Beyond this, I have contributed to several discussions on FP in Ghana. I currently represent my organisation-Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana, which is the CSO Focal Point for FP2020 Commitments Country Team, where we work to track gov't's progress towards FP2020

What sparked your passion for family planning?

Whilst growing up, I spoke with a driver, who at the 40 had 6 children and yet the wife was 5-months pregnant. He had no idea about FP and through my interaction with him, he spoke to his wife and after the 7th born, the couple signed unto FP and are happy that, they now are able to control their child birth whilst working hard to take care of the 7 kids they currently have. The lack of basic knowledge on FP is still a challenge and this is what sparked my passion for FP.

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

Whilst being part of the CSOs that advocated for the inclusion of FP in the NHIS, I provided leadership in so many ways. Most critical was the development of interview guides to guide the team that was tasked to do this. I also provided leadership in training CSOs that work in the FP on UHC, FP and Advocacy.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

I will reach out to more youth in Ghana with basic knowledge on FP information & services as well as where these services can be accessed. Using social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, regular interactions (using Twitter Chats, Q & As, Interviews, Anonymous medical doctor responding to questions etc) will be used to provide the youth with the basic knowledge on FP & share with them, facilities where they can access FP products and services as and when needed.
