Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

First, in cooperation with MOH of Afghanistan I designed and facilitated first national FP workshop in Afghanistan for improving FP/ birth spacing services on July 2015. Secondly, I have worked on the PPIUCD services expansion in Afghanistan since 2015. In close coordination with MOPH of Afghanistan, I could succeed to plan and initiate the PPIUCD services in 183 health facilities from 23 provinces. More than 2000 PPIUCD inserted in these HFs for postpartum women. Third as a core member of national Implant scalp up advisory group, I supported the FP unit of MOPH to develop Implants national scale up plan. Fourth, I am leading the planning and implementing of the community based PPFP services expansion in 100 districts of Afghanistan through providing capacity buliding of 5,000 CHWs.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

Afghanistan has the highest MMR in southern Asia, 1200/100,000. In post conflict country like Afghanistan where the resources are limited and needs are very high, I do believe that quality FP service provison further expansion is one the most cost effective and efficient life saving intervention that will save more Afghan ‘s women and chlidern life; therefore, to save more life of women and children and have healthy and happy Afghan' families is my passion for family planning.

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

I designed and leaded the national FP campaign for the first time in Afghanistan in 2016. In this compaign 500 billboards installed in big cities to increase Afghan citizen awarrness on benifits of FP, healthy birth spacing and its outcome on maternal and child health. In addition, I technical support the FP unit of MoPH of Afghanistan in the development of Implant national scale up plan. Furthermore, Balance Counseling Strategy Plus (BCS+) introduction and adoption in Afghanistan was my idea.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

I will act as a young leader, rule model and as an advocator among the Afghan public health professionals and organization. I will encourage young public health expert to work in the field of FP because in Afghanistan there is limit interest among the young public health expert to work in the area of FP. I will spend $1000 for celebrating international FP day in Afghanistan in upcoming year.
