For the past 8 years, Yemi has been improving access to and availability of FP commodities by managing supply chain to service delivery points in south western Nigeria. He has distributed over 1.2 million units of both short and long term FP products – YETUNDE OLUKOYA, PHARMACIST/DEMAND CREATION SPECIALIST at SOCIETY FOR FAMILY HEALTH, NIGERIA
Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

I have spent the last 8 years creating demand and increasing access of Nigerians to FP & RH products and services through last mile Product placement as well as corporate and community activations. I now manage a team community mobilizers and canvassers who work as change agents and ensure adoption of healthy life styles in Nigerian communities. Annually, my team distributes over 1.2 million units of both short and long term FP products and over 10 million condoms. I ensure health workers within my territory have the required knowledge and skills to provide unbiased services in our communities where myths and misconceptions even among providers is still a major limiting factor. I have over the years trained and sensitized over 1000 health workers and 2500 patent medicine vendors.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

My early life experience sparked my passion for family planning. I have lost closed relative and friends to complications of child birth.I was raised in a patriarchal society where women have little or no access to affordable family planning products. A society where the educated are still influenced by culture and misconceptions with contraceptive discontinuation remaining a major challenge even in urban areas. Promoting access to FP methods is therefore my way of influencing positive change

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

I plan, organize and manage FP-RH commodities distribution in my territory . I ensure these commditties get to the users ontime and at affordable prices. I coach and mentor sales representative and community mobilizers. as a team player and builder, my territory has repeatedly been the best performing for SFH nigeria.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

I will advocate for interventions that would make available more Family planning options affordable and accessible by all Nigerian. As a facilitator and I have formed a group community volunteers who function as FP-RH change agents in their communities. This grant will Enable me register this group as a CBO. I will also enroll in a certificate course in supply chain management of health commodities to enable me better manage a more effective and efficient distribution system.
