Describe your contributions to and achievements in family planning.

Achieved to advocate for the Ministry of Health in Zanzibar to develop an action plan of increasing the adolescents and youth friendly services facilities by 10% in 2020.

Advocated for the religious leaders in Zanzibar through Mufti office to develop a child spacing fatwa revision that use Islamic religious teachings to show the significance of family planning and how Islam supports family planning.

Conducted the landscape assessment in Zanzibar on the status of adolescents and youth friendly services in each district.

What sparked your passion for family planning?

Zanzibar is a small island with the population of 1.5 million, the rate of population increase annually is 2.8. As 99 percent are Muslims in Zanzibar they ignore the need of taking the initiatives of family planning in their life but according to the recent academic and scientific reports show if the population increase in Zanzibar will remain as it is now by 2036 the population will be doubled hence threatening the Island existence due to the small land that will not be able to accommodate.

Give one or two examples of how you display leadership in your family planning work.:

Being the champion in the advocacy plans and spearheading the issues of advocacy in family planning process.

Providing the SMART advocacy training to 20 youth led civil society organizations leaders in Zanzibar and be able to convince them to take family planning as their agenda despite of the various issues they are working on like environment, health, economy and civic engagement.

If you are named a winner of 120 under 40, how will you use this new platform and the $1000 grant to advance your work? :

To advocate for the increase of the outlets that provide adolescents and youth friendly services in the higher learning institutions whereby the assessment i conducted with my team showed there is a high need of such intervention

To advocate for the introduction of the menstrual hygiene management education in the primary and secondary schools in Zanzibar
